My name is Janet. I was born with Spina Bifida. I am now fifty six years old and this is my first blog page!
I went to a special school before doing O and A levels at a Further Education College. I graduated from Warwick University with a 2:1 in Sociology in 1979. I taught in a range of schools before retraining as a social worker in 1988. In 2008 I was forced to take early retirement because of health issues related to my disability.
That potted biography contains lots of issues which I can blog about later but for a start I wanted to begin a discussion about some of the ideas which have come up in our In Touch Over 50 Facebook Group pages. These have included the following:-
- a forum which anyone over fifty with Spina Bifida and/or Hydrocephalus can access with a user name and password.
- a useful ideas section for recommending things we find useful
- a section to introduce a buddy scheme to link people up to support each other especially with computer based stuff
- an information section with ‘fact sheets’ on benefits etc and links to helpful agencies.
Where do we begin? I am feeling really enthusiastic about this project!

Good luck with your blog! It takes a tremendous amount of work but is incredibly rewarding, just like so many other things in life …
Well done it is looking good. I just was looking at how to do this and it is a lot of work involved.
It is actually not too difficult – and I can talk you through it. If you have a WordPress Account I can add you as a Contributor. Are you up for posting?
